Auroras Expected to Light Up Skies as Solar Storm Approaches
Prepare for a Celestial Spectacle on Friday
Northern Lights to Be Visible Farther South
A powerful solar storm is on its way, promising to supercharge the northern lights and make them visible in regions where they are rarely seen. Forecasters predict that the aurora borealis, or northern lights, could be observed as far south as Maine on Friday night.
Early reports from the United States have already captured stunning images of the aurora, including those taken by Nate deLabry in Sebago Lake, Maine. The National Weather Service has issued a geomagnetic storm warning, indicating that the storm is likely to trigger the most intense auroral displays in years.
