Alexander Zverev Vs Nadal French Open

Zverev beats Nadal in emotional French Open match

Nadal forced to retire after suffering ankle injury

Alexander Zverev has reached the third round of the French Open after defeating Rafael Nadal in an emotional match that saw the Spaniard forced to retire with an ankle injury.

Zverev won the first two sets 6-3 and 7-6 (5), and was leading 3-1 in the third set when Nadal twisted his left ankle while chasing a shot. Nadal attempted to continue playing, but was clearly in pain and eventually had to retire.

The injury is a major blow to Nadal's hopes of winning a record-extending 14th French Open title. It is also a major setback for the Spaniard, who has been struggling with injuries in recent months.

Zverev, who is the third seed at Roland-Garros, will now face Dusan Lajovic in the third round.
