Argentina Advance to Final with 2-0 Victory
Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 in the 2024 Copa América Semifinals on Wednesday night, thanks to goals from Julián Álvarez and Lionel Messi. The victory sends Argentina to the final, where they will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Brazil and Uruguay.
Álvarez opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a header off a cross from Ángel Di María. Messi doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box by Canadian defender Alistair Johnston.
Canada had a number of chances to score, but could not find the back of the net. Their best opportunity came in the first half when Jonathan David was played through on goal, but he fired his shot wide.
Argentina will now face Brazil or Uruguay in the final on Sunday night. They will be looking to win their first Copa América title since 1993.
