Argentina defeated Australia 2-1 in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Saturday. Lionel Messi scored the fastest goal of his career, finding the back of the net in just 12 seconds. Julian Alvarez also scored for Argentina, while Craig Goodwin scored for Australia.
Argentina dominated the match from the start, but Australia defended well and kept the score close. Messi's goal gave Argentina the lead early, and Alvarez's goal in the second half put the game away.
Argentina will now face the Netherlands in the quarterfinals on Friday.
